Microsoft Purchases Mojang for $2.5 Billion

Following up on rumours started by a Wall Street Journal article early last week, Microsoft has confirmed that they will be purchasing Mojang for 2.5 billion dollars. Mojang is of course known for creating Minecraft, without a doubt one of the most popular games of all time. Mojang was founded by Markus Persson, Carl Manneh and Jakob Porser. However, each of these people intend to leave once the sale has gone through.

Mojang released an FAQ after the sale was made official to provide answers which can be found here. One of the more interesting points in the FAQ is the quote “There’s no reason for the development, sales, and support of the PC/Mac, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Vita, iOS, and Android versions of Minecraft to stop.” I’m curious to see if this rings true in the future and what other changes Microsoft will bring to Minecraft.

Nintendo Announces New 3DS

Following up on the success of the 3DS, Nintendo has announced a new model of the 3DS creatively named the “New Nintendo 3DS”. Perhaps the biggest change is the additional analog pad called the “C-Stick” which is located above the face buttons. Other features include a revamped 3D setting meaning whatever direction you happen to be looking at the screen, the 3D will never become fuzzy or out of focus like in previous models. Nintendo has revealed that exclusive games will be available on the new 3DS including the upcoming Xenoblade Chronicles.

Some reporters have already had hands on with the new 3DS at this years Tokyo Game Show and have praised the revamped 3D as it’s less strenuous on the eyes. The C-Stick is also said to be comfortable to use and can withstand wear and tear. The New 3DS has a release date of October 11th in Japan, with no release date confirmed for the west yet.

Xbox One Launches in Japan to Low Numbers

Xbox One has sold 23,562 units in the first week of it’s release in Japan earlier this month. While this may seem like a high number, both the Playstation 4 and Wii U sold over 300,000 units in the first two days of it’s release in the Japanese market.

Following the release, no Xbox One games entered the most sold charts of that month. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Microsoft give up on the eastern market, not that much of an effort to promote the console has been made already.

Story DLC Announced for Watch_Dogs

The first of Watch_Dogs DLC is set to release soon entitled “Bad Blood”. The story this time takes place after the events of Watch_Dogs and follows T-Bone, one of Aiden Pearce’s allies from the main campaign, as he fights for his survival.

Bad Blood will be available September 30th, with season pass owners getting it one week in advance.
