EA began its Gamescom 2013 conference by showing off The Sims 4, a new instalment in the series which has ruled the simulations genre for many years. EA have shown the next generation of Sim behaviour, with smarter, more emotionally-based lives being taken on by the new characters.

In the trailer, we can see that the Sims react and change based on their emotions, with their behaviour, manner and interactions all being affected by changes in emotion and mood. New AI makes the Sims far more intelligent, and they are capable of acting semi-normal without human control.

Many improvements have also been made to the artistic side of The Sims 4; creation, however, we’ve been promised more on that soon. The Sims 4 will be available for PC and Mac in 2014, and, although not confirmed, we expect console versions to be in the pipeline as they usually tend to be.
